It was a clear moonless winter's night, Rose was driving west into the teeth of a biting wind, the remains of a winter storm that had left six inches of snow across the country. The blizzard had passed, leaving only the wind which was occasionally whipping the snow off the fields and blowing it into drifts across the roads.

“--Ping--” A text arrived on Rose's mobile, she ignored it, she'd read it when she arrived. She was heading into the country. Her flatmate Ros had invited her to spend the weekend at a house her parents had rented. They would be away so Ros had convinced her that she and her friends would have the run of the house. She’d tried to cancel during the week when the weather turned stormy.

But Ros had convinced her and further tempted her, “My big brother’s coming, he’s looking forward to seeing you again.” Rose knew it was all a ruse, She knew she was being set up. She knew because she had prompted the whole thing, had dropped little hints, had told little lies and truths to loose lipped mutual friends. But Ros had been more efficient than expected, the trap had been set and Rose had willingly taken the bait.

The weather in the city wasn't so bad. She had dressed for a party, keeping true to the fabricated plot. She was determined to get there. She drove on, after a while coming to the crossroads which must be the one I turn right at, she thought, stopping and turning the interior light on. She checked Ros' written directions “Turn right at X-road to Lower Lochee” Aha this was the road. She drove on, the road narrowing to single track, the snow drifts worsened, a steep hill, a corner. Her car slid slowly almost gracefully into a ditch resting passenger side down at about 45 degrees, the engine stopped and the lights flickered then went out.

She sat for a few seconds still pressing the brake and holding the steering wheel. Rose turned the ignition off and on again, no warning lights, nothing. She turned the key all the way to start, still nothing. Then she remembered the advice her father had given her as he sat on the side of her bed when she was seven, the last time she had seen him.

“If ever your car won't start, hit the starter motor with a hammer.”

“OK Daddy, I will,” she'd replied, knowing instinctively the right response.

She'd remembered it all these years. But he hadn't explained what a starter motor looked like, or supplied a hammer, “Useless bastard!”

Suddenly as if someone had slapped her she jumped and grabbed her bag from the passenger seat and rummaged for her phone. Finds it, turns it on, the screen lights up and a text from Ros is displayed. “Hey U comin”. “Oh sure!” she thought “I should have turned back!”. Turning again to her phone, zero bars, no service. Fuck!

By the light of her phone she took stock of the situation, she considered her clothing. I'm wearing riding boots, that's good, I'm wearing a wee leather bomber jacket that doesn't reach my waist, hmm. I'm wearing thin hold-up stockings and a little black strapless dress with short pleated skirt, bad. A tiny see-through thong, no thermal value there, no bra, hmm, not good at all. Then she remembered the thick woolly jumper she kept in the car for wearing to the lectures with the middle aged, buttoned up bloke who always had the air-con full on cold and stared at the students' breasts, bonus. She put the jumper on over the bomber jacket.

Rose tried the ignition one last time then took out the keys and fumbling beneath her woolly jumper slipped them into a pocket in her bomber jacket. She opened her door, instantly a freezing draft rushed into what had been a warm car. She climbed out and stood or at least tried to stand on the road, the flat soles of her riding boots gave no purchase at all. Looking around she could make out a light maybe half a mile away she guessed. She weighed her options; the now cold car represents shelter and someone may pass and rescue me; that light could be a house so it represents warmth and it's only about a half mile walk.

“I'll walk,” she said aloud. This proved more difficult than she had bargained for, within a couple of minutes she had spent more time rolling in the snow trying to get up than she had walking. Her phone had become wet and the light had gone out. She was soaked, shivering uncontrollably and even swearing had become difficult.

A light! Yes, a bright light, and it was coming toward her.

She tried to control her breathing to shout. “Hello, can you help me please!”

Nothing. But the light kept coming.

“Hello! Please, I need help!”

“I can see that. Just stay where you are!” came the shouted reply.

Instinctively she tried to move toward her saviour. Bad idea, her feet went from under her, she was down on her back again, cold as she was she went through the now familiar routine of trying to stand again. Roll onto front, get onto hands and knees, place one foot then the other flat on the snow, slowly straighten legs while still supporting with hands on snow, now slowly straighten up and pull skirt back down over bum.

“I said stay where you are,” the voice was now directly behind her. Startled she tried to turn, and went down again.

“Here let me help,” a gloved hand took her arm and pulled her to a sitting position. “We need to get you to some warmth and quick. Can you stand?”

“No, I- k-keep f-falling,” Rose stuttered, almost crying. The cold was getting to her.

“Here,” he said as he grabbed her under the arms and pulled her to her feet.

“Now stand still,” he moved round to face her, she tried to make out his features but the head torch shone brightly in her eyes blinding her. Something about the voice though, an accent, an inflection, something.

“Give me that hand,” he said, reaching for her left hand.

“Why?” she asked, as she automatically offered her hand.

With one movement he grasped her wrist, thrust his other arm between her legs and swung her onto his shoulders. “Because we need to go” he said. As he turned and started jogging in the direction he'd come from.

“No! Stop! You can't do this! I'll… I'll,” she shouted as she punched his back with her free hand. But she couldn't think of anything she would or could do.

He kept jogging and between breaths shouted, “Listen up! The way you're dressed you've got about twenty minutes in these temperatures. So quit complaining.”

By the time he slowed Rose could hear the hum of an engine and there was light on the snow. A door opened and she was carried into a bright hallway.

He bent forward and set her on her feet, as he straightened up he took off the hat and head torch as one.

“Professor Air-con! Oh, er… sorry,” it came out as a reflex.

“Yes Professor Air-con. Or Alex if you'd prefer, I know I would. Hello Rose, fancy seeing you here! Now come in here, you need to get out of those wet clothes,” he opened a door and led her into a bedroom. She looked around, it was sparse, a large wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a chair and a double bed.

“Here sit on this chair let me get your boots,” he said reversing her onto the chair and bending to one knee. He unzipped each boot and taking them off set them aside. Standing up he opened a drawer in the chest and after a quick rummage took out a pair of leggings and a hoody and threw them on the bed.

“You can wear these,” Alex turned to leave. “I'll be in the living room straight across the hall, come through to the fire when you're changed.”

“Wait!” she called. He had left the room and was closing the door, he half opened the door again and looked back at Rose, eyebrows raised. She looked at him then looked down, she felt so silly sitting there swinging her legs. She abruptly stopped her legs swinging and looked up at him. “I, er, could you help with my zip, I can't...”

“Aha, sure, stand up and turn around,” Rose stood with her back to him. “Arms up,” he said as he grasped the bottom edge of her jumper and pulled upwards. “I've cursed this jumper more than once, would you mind if I put it on the fire?” she instantly pulled away from him and began wrestling with the jumper herself, it was above her head but her arms and neck were still engaged. The wet jumper turned out to be a better wrestler than she had bargained for, being still weak from the cold she stumbled and fell against Alex.

Alex caught her with an arm around her waist. They stood, he embracing her face to face, or more accurately face to jumper.

“Would you like me to undo your zip now?”

Rose sighed, “Could you just help. Without the clever comments, if that’s possible?” she paused, “Just try to be a gentleman. Can you do that?”

“I can,” he replied, “Although I fail to see why I should when you are clearly failing to act like a lady.”

Rose shivered, “Alex please, I’m cold, I just want to get into some warm clothes.”

“You’re right, I’m sorry, Arms up.” He untangled her from her jumper and threw it toward the door “I'll hang it on the Rayburn, it'll be dry by morning.”

“Can I use your phone?” she said looking him straight in the eyes.

“Don't have one” he said smiling back at her, he reached down and took hold of the cuff of her bomber jacket holding it up for her to slide her arm out then doing the same with the other arm. “I'm not sure this'll recover.” he said, holding up the soaked bomer jacket by the sleeve.

“What! You don't have a phone!”

Gently he put his hands on her shoulders and turned her away from him. “This is my bolt hole, I'm off grid here, no distractions.” As he said this he unzipped her dress noticing as it fell open Rose's bare back, no bra strap. “Well usually.”

Alex reached behind the open door and took a fluffy bath robe from a hook, “Here, put this on for now. I’ll set the shower going. A hot shower’ll soon warm you up.”

“Thank you, I can manage now,” she said as she turned toward him clutching her dress to her breast with one arm and taking the bath robe with the other. “Shoo, out, out.”

“As you wish” he said holding his hands up in mock surrender. Alex turned and picking up her wet boots, jumper and jacket he left the room turning to give her a sarcastic tilted head bow as he closed the door behind him. Then as a thought jumped into his mind he shouted “Bathroom, on the left, under the stairs.”

Rose shouted back, “Thank you.”

Rose slid her dress to the floor and stepped out of it then quickly put on the robe, stopped to think then deciding she didn't want to be wearing anything sexy, quickly took off the thong and kicked it under the bed. Picking up the hoody and leggings she left the bedroom.

She pushed open the door with the small brass relief of the Belgian boy peeing in the fountain. Entering she noticed the walls were covered in pictures of Alex, some recent, him in hill walking, climbing or skiing gear and some of a younger Alex in SCUBA gear. Alex was stood by the shower, he beckoned her over. “Hotter,” he indicated the shower controller and rotated his hand to the left. “Cooler,” hand rotating to the right. “Off,” open hand pushed toward the wall. “Towels on the radiator.”

Rose shivered, “Thanks, I think I’ll manage.”

“OK, er, right. I’ll be in the kitchen, opposite the bedroom. Enjoy.”

Rose watched Alex leave and close the door behind him. Looking around the white tiled bathroom she wondered, could he have a camera in here. She looked around again and shivered, sod it I’m too cold to bother. She dropped the robe to the floor and stepped into the shower. “Hot, hot, hot,” she said to herself as the heat gave her pins and needles as the circulation returned to her feet and hands. She was soon stood under the full flow of the shower hugging herself in the warmth. She dried herself and quickly put on the hoody and leggings tying a tight knot in the elastic waist cord of the leggings, wrapped her hair in a fresh new towel. Oo, quick pee, she thought. Try as she might she couldn’t undo the knot she’d tied in the leggings, she didn’t even try to push them down over her hips.

Leaving the bathroom Rose entered the bright hallway and pushed the living room door she'd been told about. It squeaked as it opened.

“Through here!” came a call from an open doorway.

Walking toward the doorway she called back “Um, sorry, could you help? I can’t undo this with my nails,” she stopped as she reached the doorway to Alex's kitchen, holding out the ends of the cord.

“Gosh, so many wardrobe malfunctions in one day.”

“Yeah, very funny, would you mind, please.”

Alex held out his hand but didn't move from the Rayburn where he'd been stirring something. She moved forward and placed the end of the drawstring in his hand.

“Stir the soup.” He said as he bent to undo the knot.

She started stirring what looked and smelled like chicken broth, then looking down noticed that as he worked on the knot her waistband was pulled away from her belly giving Alex a perfect view of her shaven mound. Instantly she drew away, but Alex gave her no slack.

“Mmm, such pretty,” Alex paused and looked up at her. “Nails.” he finished the sentence. “Nothing I've not already seen. Now stand still,” a few moments later the knot was undone. “There you go, hurry back the soup's about ready.”

On returning to the living room two plates of soup were waiting on a coffee table in front of the fire. Alex was tearing a chunk from a half loaf of bread. A cushion from the sofa was on the floor in front of the fire for her to sit on, Alex had pulled forward an arm chair. She sat cross legged and started on the soup dipping her wedge of bread and biting off the wet bits. Once the bread was finished she took up her spoon then paused, She looked at Alex.

“Thank you, for rescuing me I mean”

“All in a day's work.” He smiled at her. “Lucky I saw you, I just happened to look out as you came over the brow of the hill. Then when I saw your lights go out, I guessed what must have happened. It's not the first time. That corner catches many an unwary traveller.”

Rose shivered, the memory of her struggle in the snow still fresh.

“Are you warm enough.”

“Yeah, fine, toastie, just...”

“Eat your soup, you're fine.”

Rose finished her soup, Alex tidied away the bowls and swept the crumbs onto his hand and threw them into the fire then sat back in his armchair. Rose stayed in front of the fire on the cushion enjoying the feeling of being hot.

“What shall we talk about now?” Alex began the conversation looking down at her.

“Er-m, I dunno,” Rose stared into the fire trying to think of something to say. “Oh I Know. Me and Ros, we graduate next year, what do you think we'll get, a first, two-one or a dreaded Desmond?”

Alex laughed. “You and Ros, yes the party girls, there's not a week goes past without another story circulating the faculty about the party girls' latest antics.”

Rose looking a little hurt, turned her cushion so she could lean back on the sofa and face Alex.

“Yeah we have a good time but we study too. You didn't answer the question.”

“OK, firstly I can't discuss Ros, confidentiality, data protection etcetera. You however,” he paused looking at her faintly shaking his head.

“Yes. Me, tell me.”

“Rose, You're unlikely to graduate, and I think you know it.”

“Rubbish! I study...”

“No, you read a little in the library in between texting. You worked in first year, coasted in second and you're coasting third. Next year, if you’re even still on course, will be too much for you.”

For some time there was silence. Alex got up from his chair put coal on the fire and sat down again.

“What can I do? I need a degree, I have to have one.”

“Oh, degrees can be much over rated. You'll do fine...”

Rose moved her cushion back onto the sofa then sat staring at the flames in the fire occasionally drying her eyes with the sleeve of her hoody. Suddenly she looked at him. “You, you could help me, you know the course inside out. You could tutor me.”

Alex didn’t even pause to consider his answer. “The time you'd require would be way beyond that I'm contractually obliged to provide. I couldn't disadvantage other students.”

Again silence fell on the room.

“Would three Saturdays a month of your time get me a two-one?”

“Probably, with my help, but I can't commit to that kind of time, and besides you couldn't pay me. Why would I?”

Rose sat and studied him, after a while almost imperceptibly she nodded.

“You’re right I can’t pay you, do you need a cleaner or a cook?” She gave him her cutest smile.

Alex smiled back “Tempting but I don’t really need either.”

“I could be your maid, you could get me a uniform.” As she said this put one hand on her hip and the other behind her head and did a playful shimmy, then almost immediately flushed slightly as she felt her breasts move a bit more than she’d planned. She laughed trying to sound natural, letting Alex know she was ‘just joking’.

Alex didn’t reply, he merely acknowledged her light heartedness with the slightest smile. “Would you like a glass of wine?”

“Um,” Rose considered the wisdom of alcohol given her current situation. “a small one, yes please.”

Alex smiled and closed his eyes, wondering at the wisdom of the course the conversation was taking and should he continue with it. He opens his eyes to see Rose looking quizzically at him. “Wine, yes, in this dresser,” He turned and indicated a welsh dresser against the wall behind him. “You’ll find wine in the right hand cupboard, glasses in the middle and corkscrew in the drawer.”

Rose laughed. “Really, I’m your maid now am I? I don’t think so, I don’t have a uniform.”

“Ah of course, you’ll find a uniform in the left hand cupboard.”

Rose got up from the sofa and walked to the dresser “But you haven’t agreed to tutor me Alex, so I’m not wearing the uniform.” Rose opened the right hand cupboard to reveal a full wine rack, she took a bottle, got the corkscrew from the drawer and passed them to Alex. She got two wine glasses and placed them on the coffee table. “Can I have a look at the uniform?”

“No, you may not. Come here and pour the wine.” He handed Rose the open bottle and threw the cork into the fire.

Rose leant forward and poured the wine. As she did she was aware of her breasts hanging away from her chest, even though the hoody completely covered her it was baggy enough that her body felt free within it. She glances at Alex wondering does he suspect how much she was enjoying the feeling. She passes Alex a glass and as he takes it gives the slightest hint of a curtsy. She moves her own to the far edge of the coffee table then puts the sofa cushion back on the floor and sits cross legged on it leaning her forearms on the coffee table and her chin on her forearms. “So, maid. What would my...” Duties be? She was going to say. But Alex stopped her with a raised palm.

“’Maid’ was your term. I don’t agree to it.” Alex again paused wondering whether he dare. “I was more thinking, slave.”

“Slave!” Rose raised her head from her arms. “What exactly does that mean?”

“A slave is very different to a maid. Whilst a maid would have defined duties, a slave must do whatever she is told immediately and without question.” Alex was careful to place stress on ‘whatever’.

“Whatever!” Rose echoed.

“Immediately and without question.”

Rose rested her chin on her forearms again and stared into her wine. After a couple of minutes she looked up at Alex. “You would include sex in your ‘whatever’ wouldn’t you?”

Alex didn’t pause, he was already down the rabbit hole, he looked her straight in her beautiful blue eyes. “Of course, as I said, I don’t need a cook or cleaner. You should also be aware, an under performing slave may be punished for her failings.”

Rose put her forehead on her arms. “Let me think.” She said.

For a while there was quiet, Alex occasionally sipped his wine. Rose, after a little while moved onto the sofa and pulled her arms inside the hoody and hugged herself, staring at her untouched wine.

Looking up at Alex and tilting her head. She asked. “Can I see the uniform?”

“I think what you meant to say is. May I see the uniform.”

Rose rolled her eyes. “Whatever!” then ever so sweetly. “May I see the uniform?”

“Rose, if you’re going to give me attitude then I seriously doubt you have the capacity to gain a good degree, never-mind a first. Perhaps it's best I take you back into town, you can organise a garage to recover your car tomorrow.” Alex knew he was tempting her, offering the slightest glimpse of a carrot, whilst at the same time showing the stick of rejection. He’d given her an easy choice, return to town and loose the chance of a degree or ask pleasantly to see the uniform. He felt confident she would choose the latter.

Rose didn’t see her options in quite the same way. She saw the opportunity of getting back into town, the night was still youngish and the best nights out often started unexpectedly. Alternatively, stay here, Alex clearly wanted to get into her knickers. ‘Oops.’ She thought. ‘They’re under the bed in his bedroom.’ These thoughts reminded her of her lack of underwear. She moved her arms inside the hoody and cupped a breast rubbing her nipple slowly with her thumb. But what of her degree, she could study, get back to the work ethic from first year. Then with pursed lips and the slightest nod of her head she made a decision. “OK, you get me! Tonight, do whatever you want with me. Then you tutor me to a degree. And anyway you’ve been drinking, you can’t drive”

“Whoa there Rose.” Alex leant forward and put down his empty glass on the coffee table, shaking his hands palms toward Rose. “No...no...no, Rose you misunderstand. I don’t want your body for one night, I want your mind and body for the next year. One night with you wouldn’t keep me committed for a whole year.”

Rose stared at him, she pulled her legs up onto the sofa and looped the hoody over her knees inadvertently affording Alex a glimpse of the outer edge of her breasts, her arms crossed around her shins.

Alex continued. “No, for this to work, you come here every other Saturday, we study during the day and in the evening you slave for me.”

Rose gently rocked back and fore, her head resting on her knees, deep in thought.

After some time Alex poured himself a second glass of wine. “So, you’re probably thinking what a pervert I am, and wondering how you get out of this fix.”

Rose looked up at him with a thoughtful expression. “No, just thinking.” she continued to think.

Alex again interrupted. “Look let's forget the whole thing. I’ll get your car recovered in the morning and you can get back to town. we’ll say no more about it. Here drink your wine.” Alex leant over the table and topped up Rose’s glass.

A couple of minutes later Rose slipped her arms back into the arms of the hoody and gathered up the hem from her shins and lifted it to put her feet back on the floor. In fact she lifted the front of the hoody so far her face was hidden. What wasn’t hidden was her chest, Alex had a perfect view of her perfect breasts.

As she lowered the hoody she was smiling at Alex. “It won't work.” She said.

“Why ever not, I'm a man of my word. If you doubt me then...”

“No.” She held a hand up to quiet him. “It wouldn't be you, it would be me. I know me, on most of those Saturdays I'll have been out the night before and I won't even make it here.” She sighed. “No if this is going to work...” Rose took a deep breath. “I’ll be your slave every Friday then you tutor me every Saturday. And. If we’re gonna do this then I want a first.” She smiled at him then leant forward and took up her wine.

He studied her. “I see your dilemma.” He said smiling. “I accept. Do we need this in writing?”

“No. like you, my word is good.”

“Very well, let's shake on it.” Alex said. Standing and offering his hand to her. Rose took his hand, looked him in the eye and shook his hand. Alex held her hand not releasing it even when she tried to pull away.

“Good, the deal is sealed. And since this is Friday and tomorrow you'll work, tonight you are my slave, my play thing.” Alex's voice changed from friendly, nurturing to authoritarian and commanding. “Stand up, I want to inspect you.”

“Not tonight, you didn't say starting tonight, that wasn't part of the...”

“Rose stop! You have entered into a contract. Your Fridays now are very simple, consisting of only three options; you obey, you disobey and take the consequences or you dissolve the contract. I advise you to think carefully which course you choose. Now, stand up and do as you’re told.”

Rose stood. “Alex, I would like to discuss what you are allowed to do to me.”

Alex released Rose's hand. “Very well, it’s a good point.” Alex paced slowly around the room rubbing his chin, as he passed Rose the first time he stopped and placed her hands behind her in the small of her back. The next time he passed he gently tapped at the insides of her feet with his foot, Rose didn’t move her feet. Alex paced again. As soon as his back was turned Rose leant forward, grabbed her glass from the table and downed it. She was just trying to place it quietly back as Alex turned. She froze, not daring to move. Alex paced, slowly back to her and without a word took the glass from her, placed his hands on her shoulders, returned her to a standing position and replaced her hands behind her back.

Alex lifted the front of Roses hoody and pulled the bow open at the top of her leggings then slid the leggings down to mid thigh. Placing his open palm on Roses buttock Alex leant forward and whispered in her ear. “Actions have consequences Rose.” He raised his hand from her buttocks, then began pacing again.

As Alex walked away from her Rose wriggled her legs, the leggings fell to her ankles. As Alex turned and faced her and stopped she smiled at him. “Sorry sir, they fell.”

Alex stopped pacing. “Rose, I really don’t want to have to spank you before we finalise our contract. Pull them up.” He continued to pace. Finally he stopped in front of her. “So, rules of engagement will be. Nothing illegal. No permanent marking. No marks that may show beyond normal, modest clothing. No marks which may persist beyond one week. Your safety will be ensured at all times. You will not be loaned to others. You will have a safe word, it will be ‘red’. You nor I will tell anyone of our,” He paused searching for a word. “arrangement. And pay good heed to this Rose. You will not have sexual relations outwith this contract. Do you have anything to add?”

“Um, no I don’t think so. Why won’t you loan me out? It could be f...”
