Arrival

The buildings looked stayed and full of tradition. Anne liked them and the park surrounding them at first sight and was even happier she had taken this job at the small 6th form boarding school rather than the one at the state school she had been offered, too. She followed the driveway round the building until she found the staff parking lot. Although it was the last day before the start of the new term there were only half a dozen other cars and she found space for her small Honda easily. Grabbing her smaller suitcase she made for the door. There would be time for the big one later, when she knew where her rooms were.

She pushed open the door and found herself in a long deserted hallway. Uncertainly she walked along listening to the sound of her footsteps. Apparently the headmaster did not believe in signposting, there were numbers on the doors, but no signs to tell her where the office or the headmaster's study were. Anne started, when suddenly two teenagers came out of a room. The two seemed just as surprised, but after the initial recoiling two pairs of eyes scanned her body, then fastened on her breasts. I know this is somewhat unusual, but since your predecessor left us rather suddenly, you will be settled with one of our two final grade classes. Seventeen students, 12 of them boys and 5 girls. Mister Barker has the other final grade and I'm sure he will be happy to fill you in on everything you need to know. Are you ok with that?\"

\"That's the spirit,\" the headmaster smiled. \"Besides that, this being a boarding school, you will have to take your turn as House Master. You will share responsibility for Aspinall House, which is home to all 35 final graders with Mister Barker and two other teachers. There are two wings, boys and girls, of course. As it is, every teacher is expected to be on duty about twice a week. The problem with that is that we are a bit short on accommodation. Your predecessor, being married, had a house in the village and maintained only a small bedroom, hardly more than a broom cupboard, to be honest, here for his duty nights.\"

\"But I thought I would get rooms from the school and haven't made any arrangements for private accommodation,\" Anne interrupted. \"It said so in the contract.\"

The headmaster raised a hand. \"And so you will, very nice accommodation in fact. As you drove up to the house, you may have seen a small cottage on the left among the trees. A former gardener's cottage. I was thinking of putting you up there. It is quite small, but very nice for a single person like you. After the shock Anne was relieved.

The headmaster grinned. He picked up a key ring from his desk.

\"Great. This is the key to the cottage. I'll call one of your boys to show you the way. And we always have a staff dinner the night before the start of term. If you could be here in the staff dining room at 7 I could introduce you to the other teachers.\"

He picked up a phone and punched two numbers.

The cottage was a pleasant surprise. She had come expecting some rather drab institutional apartment off a noisy hallway, but this was more like a well-appointed holiday cottage. Granted it was small, but then she was single and did not need a palatial house. She entered straight into a cozy living-room with a small kitchen unit and breakfast bar hidden around a corner. The furnishings were slightly old-fashioned, but the whole place oozed character. There was even an small open fireplace.
